Banks shares new artwork in support of Black Lives Matter

Protests over Black Lives Matter have spread around the world for the past two weeks following the death of George Floyd, a black man killed in police custody in the United States on May 25. Banksy’s latest work published, Instagram post, Illustrates how Floyd’s death shook the United States.

The piece is made of a candle with a framed black figure and flowers all around. An American flag is lit by candles below hanging overhead.

In addition to artwork, Banksy clarified his thoughts on systemic racism crystals.

“At first I thought I should talk to blacks about this problem, but why should I do it? It’s not their problem. It’s mine,” Banksy wrote in his Instagram post, which garnered more than 2 million likes.

“People of color are failing by the system. The white system is like a broken pipe flooding down the apartment of the residents below. The faulty system is making their lives miserable, but it’s not their job to fix it. They can’t let anyone go upstairs to their apartment.

“It’s a white problem and if white people don’t fix it, someone has to go upstairs and knock on the door,” the artist added.

On Sunday a Black Lives Matter protest took place on the streets of Bristol, England where Banksy is thought to have been born. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.
