Indian Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar has tested positive for the coronavirus; Searching for contacts

Indian Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar has tested positive for the coronavirus and is currently in Home Quarantine. The search for the contact has so far revealed that at least 35 officials have been sent home quarantine at the ministry’s headquarters in the southern block of Raisina Hills, citing PTI officials.

Although an official statement on the matter is awaited, two people familiar with the matter have confirmed the news to Hindustan Times. Kumar was said to have shown signs of COVID-19 and tested it himself. On Tuesday, Kumar’s test results returned positive for the coronavirus, but one person said top government officials were stable and under house quarantine.

Search for Ajay Kumar’s contacts

The search for contacts is currently underway, but PTI said 30-35 officials who came in contact with the top bureaucrats have been sent home for compulsory segregation as per protocol. Kumar, the first top government official to test positive for the infection, has his office on the first floor of the South Block, which is being sanitized, officials said. However, the offices of several top officials, including the defense minister, army chief and naval chief, are on the same floor as Kumar’s.
