Little Mix explain their new song Cut Off

Little Mix have appeared to take a swipe at their ex-bandmate Jesy Nelson.

The trio are preparing to release a new song called Cut You Off, which explains how the girls need to “protect their energy” and would happily cut anyone off who weren’t adding to their positivity.

They gave fans the name of the track in an Instagram Live last week, where Jade Thirlwall described writing the track as “like therapy”.

“Cut You Off was written a couple of months ago in a session with Lost Boy and Lauren Aquilina. It was kind of like a therapy session writing Cut You Off actually,” she told fans.

“I love Cut You off because it’s just a really good solid manic pop song.”

Whilst Perrie Edwards added: “You let it all out and it’s a safe space.”

Some of the lyrics have now been revealed by The Sun and fans are convinced the song is about Jesy, who quit the girl group last year after saying being in Little Mix had taken a toll on her mental health.

In the track, the girls sing: “How did we get here? We used to be so cool. Nothing lasts forever but I really thought we could.

“I know there’ll be tears but it’s worth the broken heart. If I can’t protect my energy, I gotta cut you off.”

The new track comes after Jesy gave an interview explaining how there were “disagreements” between her and her bandmates on how they wanted to carve their career out.

“I had times and moments when I really loved it, but it felt like there were way more times that I was sad than I was happy,” she told the Reign With Josh Smith podcast.

“I don’t think people realise how hard it is to be in a girl band. There’s a lot that comes with it that people don’t know about.

“And obviously I don’t get to make my own decisions. Three people have to agree as well, so there would always be disagreements on certain things.”

And in another scathing interview, Jesy – who will release her debut solo single Boyz this month – said she hadn’t spoken to her former bandmates since she decided to leave the band.

She told The Guardian : “No, not as much. Not now. I think we all need time. It’s a big thing that’s happened.

“I think they’re just as sick as a three. They’re still doing it for girl power. I still love them to pieces. They were like my sisters.”
