Raphael Varane has arrived at Carrington ahead of his Manchester United medical.
The France international had been quarantining since he arrived in England with his family on Thursday, but arrived at the club’s training facility on Tuesday lunchtime to undergo his medical.
MEN Sport reported earlier in the day United were planning to conduct the defender’s medical on Tueday if Varane returned a negative test for Covid-19.
Varane, 28, is expected to officially sign his contract on Wednesday morning, before shooting shots for his unveiling ahead of a planned afternoon announcement.
It is understood the former Real Madrid star wants to start training on Wednesday in a bid to stake his claim for a starting role against Leeds in United’s Premier League opener on Saturday, although manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already suggested Varane will be on the bench.
If the France international is to have any chance of making the squad this weekend United will have to complete the signing of Varane by 12pm on Friday in order to have him registered in time for the match.
The MEN revealed last week United had intended to complete the signing of Varane by, or on Wednesday of this week.
Varane, his wife Camille and two young children have been staying at a gated estate owned by United in Cheshire, nicknamed ‘Covid Towers’. Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani temporarily resided at the residence around the time of their transfers.
