Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj has tested positive for Kovid-19, an official said on Sunday, May 31.
Coming after the development, his wife Amrita Rawat was also tested positive for the deadly coronavirus on Saturday. It is noteworthy that along with the couple, 22 people, including family members and employees, have also tested positive for the coronavirus.
Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh said, “A cabinet minister in the Uttarakhand government has tested positive for the coronavirus. Twenty-two people, including his family members and employees, have tested positive,” said Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh.
Interestingly, Satpal Maharaj is also a spiritual leader who has followers all over the country. The minister attended a meeting of the state cabinet earlier this week which was chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. State Health Department spokesman JC Pandey said all ministers attending the meeting should be kept separate.
Pandey further said that a positive test was conducted for his wife Kovid-19 on Saturday and his two sons, their wife and one-and-a-half-year-old grandson and one other along were confirmed on Sunday. On Sunday morning, Amita Rawat was admitted to Satpala Maharaj with IM Aikesh Ames, and later with other members of her family. 17 people have been given other facilities due to space crisis.
Absolute Neglect: Congress
The opposition, the Congress, questioned the government over the development. Congress vice-president Suryakanta Dhasman called it “perfect negligence” and said, “It shows how negligent and irresponsible the government is in the fight against this epidemic. Now the question is whether the whole government has been quarantined as it was.”
